At the meeting they said there were 25 houses burned ( Whitlock E and W, Moser, Sherlock, Mt Bullion Ridge) and possibly more. They don't know when people can return home as the fire is still active and they are still trying to surround it. 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

26. Holding FedEx & UPS Packages for Evacuees at Mariposa Shipping Co.
Jul 29 2008, 11:46 AM EDT | Post edited: Jul 29 2008, 11:46 AM EDT
It was announced at the meeting last night that the Post Office will hold mail and packages for evacuees, and that Midpines mail can be picked up at the Mariposa post office.

If you are expecting something from UPS, FedEx, or California Overnight/OnTrac, we can hold it for you at Mariposa Shipping Co. Call us at 966-7772 and give us your information. We will contact the carrier and get the package dropped at the store, where you can pick it up. Of course there is no charge for this.

Owner, Mariposa Shipping Co.

28. black mountain flareup
Jul 29 2008, 4:22 PM EDT | Post edited: Jul 29 2008, 4:22 PM EDT
1:15 pm - Tues, July 29 - Scanner just said there is a flareup on Black Mountain outside the containment area ; they're getting air tankers up there. Don't know how big it was.

Also heard activity around Corey Pine Road which is over the ridge from my house; there were fires in that area Sat. night so don't know if it's burning again or if there's some unburned area over there that is now burning. (They said the ridge above Corey Pine, I believe, but hope it's not the ridge where my house it...)

31. Someone asked about when the MODIS fire spotting satellites update.
Jul 29 2008, 7:38 PM EDT | Post edited: Jul 29 2008, 7:38 PM EDT
Orbit overflight times for July 29th, for the two MODIS fire spotting satellites.
all times in UTC. Our time zone is (UTC-7).

Terra craft overflight approx 450 miles to the west at 19:17. And approx 1500 miles to the east at 05:37

Aqua craft overflight approx 200 miles to east at 09:52. approx 400 miles to east at 20:55.

So an information up date to the MODIS system at 12:17, 10:52, 13:55, and maybe one more update at 22:37, but it might pass too far to the east.

These times have been converted to Pacific daylight time, and are not UTC: "So an information up date to the MODIS system at 12:17, 10:52, 13:55, and maybe one more update at 22:37, but it might pass too far to the east." Do you find this valuable?

The most active area of the fire is moving north along Bull Creek Road. Bull Creek Road is the road that the Burma Grade turns into once it gets to the top of the ridge. (Based on the fire map and scanner.) 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?
